River Café (Prince’s Island Park) – Calgary, Alberta

River Café is a hidden gem tucked into the beautiful Prince’s Island Park. It is picture perfect, especially at this time of year with scattered leaves at your feet and the crisp fall air leading the way. Walking through the park is half the treat of this dining experience. A short walk over the bridge and you will be welcomed by the rustic exterior that resembles a cozy cabin in the woods.

My boyfriend, being the smart man that he is, made a reservation at River Café in honor of our anniversary earlier this week.

For me, the evening started off with one of the most delightful cocktails…an impeccable concoction of Pimms, rum, rosemary lemonade, ginger beer and mint.

We shared the line caught squid and merguez combined with an eggplant caponata, smoked chickpeas and a hazelnut romesco. A fine start to the evening and a prelude to the delectable meals to follow.

I chose the Haida Gwaii Halibut and my boyfriend opted for the Slow Roast Spragg Farm “Porchetta”. Paired with a crisp viognier for me and a rich merlot for him, our dinner was the perfect celebration.

We finished the evening off with a chocolate lava cake infused with plums and I couldn’t pass up the rhubarb sorbet. Simply delicious.

As always, I was impressed with the thought and creativity poured into the menu. This restaurant will forever be a favorite of mine!
